Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is an action-packed video game developed and created by Ubisoft Quebec. Published by Ubisoft, the game is the eleventh installment of the assassin Creed series. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey became available worldwide on various consoles like playstation4, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo switch on 5th October 2018.

The game has garnered immense appreciation and reviews from both critics and players. Soon after Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the next installment in the series called, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was released.

WHAT IS ASSASSIN’S CREED ODYSSEY ABOUT? 

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey follows the story of ancient Greece. The plot of the game is set around 431- 422 BC. The story centers around the events of the historical war called the Peloponnesian war, which took place in the city-states of Greece. Players act as mercenaries in this game. A player can fight from the side of the Delian League or the Peloponnesian League. The former belongs to Athens while the latter is controlled by the leaders of Sparta. The game is mostly about the main character, striving to restore their broken family. The story depicts how the family disintegrated after the entire family of the lead player was thrown off a cliff at a very early age.

Similar to the previous narratives of the earlier assassin games, AC: Odyssey also features a storyline set in modern-day Greece, covering its landscape and environment. One can witness several historical personages players like Aristophanes, Euripides, Aspasia, Kleon,

Herodotos, Phidias, and so on. The game also features some of the famous historical locations of Greece like Ithaca, Cephalonia, the Agora of Athens, the Odeon of Athens, the statue of Zeus, Lesbos, Naxos, ancient cities like Argolis, Athens, Pnyx, Mesara, etc. Greek myths like Medusa, Minotaur, and Cyclops can also be seen.

GAMEPLAY

The two main characters, Alexios and Kassandra are Greek mercenaries and descendants of the king of Sparta, Leonidas I. The king leaves behind a magical broken spear, which becomes a blade in times of need, thus granting special powers to the player during fights. The game offers three varieties of skill trees, each having different purposes, hunter, warrior, and arrow. These trees when unlocked, give special powers to players.

When the ability bar gets completed, the hitbox combat system grants more powers to players. This system is similar to the one introduced in origin returns, but it’s more customized and broadened in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Some of the special powers granted are a powerful kick that can knock off opponents and call a rain of arrows. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has also introduced a gear system in which every different armor worn by players provides different advantages to them. These weapons and armors can be upgraded and equipped from time to time. There is also an eagle vision mode which gives the player the ability to scout an area.

In this game, players can get into romantic relationships with another player of any gender, no matter what the gender of the player is. Director Jonathan Dumont has said that since the storyline is completely choice-driven, getting into relationships is entirely up to the choice of the players.
